  • Ask JR

    Ask JR

Well before we get into the postbag this week I would like to dedicate the header photo to Unclecid who was finding all the rabbit porn a bit much.
    On with the solving!

    Dear JR,

I’ve recently been playing top 90’s puzzle game Lemmings, just something about those tranquil green levels that sooths me and makes me think of the English countryside, but then a big gate opens up and floods the place with little mop top bastards.

    I know

    GLaDOS is a wus.

Do you feel that gaming is being dumbed down? Tired of fantastically pretty but ultimately dull FPS games which simply spew out the same game with minor updates year after year?
Do you always go on about how games were SOOOOOOO much better twenty years ago?
Well, all your dreams have been answered (except that one about the spider with the nunchuks )
Cult Sci-Fi FPSRPG classic System Shock is now available on GoG, updated to work on modern machines and complete with...

    BattleFleet Gothic

Do you like Homeworld? The truly 3D RTS that produced the most effective use of Adalgio for Strings to hit gaming.
Do you like Warhammer? The board game phenomenon that looks really cool and you might totally try one day if you ever meet anyone that admits to playing it, and find a spare £1000 down the back of the sofa to pay for the army.
Imagine if someone, somewhere were to combine both these epic nerd memes into one awesome product...........WELL IMAGINE NO MORE!...

    Ask JR

Well its been a long week, and many of you are still crying out for help, but instead of going to highly trained councillors, psychiatrists or other such professionals, you come to me.
    Its nice to be needed.

    Dear JR,
I have been a big fan of Bioware games since I played the original Baldurs Gate back in 1998 at the age of 9.
I can think of nothing better after a hard day in the recording studio than to escape...

The Hype Train has left the Station.

Soon to be top dog in PC Strategy, Paradox Entertainment has released (well, a week ago) more promotional material for its soon to be third zeitgeist strategy game (joining Europa Universalis and Crusader Kings).
And in the vein of PC gaming sites everywhere (who failed to pick up on this one strangely enough) we get to simply post the you-tube video, ramble on about nothing for a paragraph, and call it news.
That should just about do it.

    Ask JR

Well, since the last edition of “Ask JR” my letterbox has literally EXPLODED with requests for help.
Which I have to admit has surprised me as I was unaware that anyone knew where I lived.
Still, I’m here to help, and as it is quite literally illegal for me not to give assistance to those in need....
    Dear Mr Rabbit
I’ve been doing quite well in my Crusader Kings II campaign. Whilst my current reign has been plagued with the loss of several,...

    PC Gamer : - review

    Ahhhhhh gaming magazines.
Before the ubiquitousness of the Internet they were the only way that you could keep abreast with the world of gaming, to have any kind of inkling as to what was on the horizon. From Zzapp 64 to Amiga Power (best gaming magazine ever) to PC Gamer.
Back in the days of Mr Chaffe and Kieron Gillen (who went on to become one of the best writers marvel currently have!) PC Gamer was one of the best.
I remember eagerly looking forward to each...

BAN THIS SICK FILTH :- Submerged

    Ban This Sick Filth
Amazing isn’t it, I’ve been fighting hard to improve the moralistic integrity of the gaming industry since last year, and still they make this sort of rubbish.
Its almost as if no-one is listening to my voice, but I know that can’t be true because since my denouncment of Elite, I’ve been getting interdicted and having death threats hurled at me.
Even though I’m still playing in the solo universe.

This just shows how ingrained misogyny...

  • ASK JR

    ASK JR

Games are becoming ever more complicated, with ever more layers and aspects which need to be considered to maximise your gaming ability.
But what if you repeatedly fail? What if, no matter what you try, you simply cannot “get it”? What if your inability to succeed is hampering your ability to enjoy the game you have just played?
Well you could apply to STEAM for a refund, or you could....

BAN THIS SICK FILTH:- Elite Dangerous

I know, its been a while, but if we go too long without highlighting what a gargantuan mass of offence and bigotry that makes up the modern video game industry, we will never get our “gaming site accreditation” and be included on secret mailing lists involved in mass social programming.
And none of us want that.
And my oh my what an unholy list of sins Elite Dangerous commits .
Still, this is hardly suprising considering...

The 90's were great wern't they. Some of the best games created in that decade. Thief, Alpha Centauri and Sim City. All suffered from abominations of re-boots over the last year.

So it was boud to happen one day. I bought something and then found out I already owned it!.

So there you go. I'm not saying what it is, though I would ask that whoever succesfully activates it lets everyone know.
