So after a few hours of playing (Played it all day!!!) I get the horrible feeling the AI is stupid and incapable of making sound decisions. I'm walking over most civilizations on King difficulty at the moment, I just build a load of Legions as Rome and the AI just keeps pumping out warriors and sometimes mounted units.

Bad AI is always a deal breaker for me, as good as the game is, if the AI can't compete properly then there is no point playing it. One of the reasons why I lose interest in most games.. Total War Warhammer is another embarassing example of how not to do the AI... fuck, what's wrong with game developers these days, it's like they're degenerating.

Well, I'm going to contradict you here. Whilst the AI isn't brilliant (so it would seem to my, also limited, opinion) it doesn't seem to be any worse than previous Civ games, and I've certainly had Civ's upgrade past warriors and mounted units and act quite aggressively. Indeed barbarians seem to be far more aggressive in this than in past civ games.

Maybe my initial reaction isn't completely accurate, but there are too many similarities with past CIVS to how the AI's units behave. I do like some of the things that they seem to do differently that I have been noticing, they actually retreat from combat if they're wounded and try to heal back up or replace that hex with another full health unit in fact unless you kill one of their units outright in that turn then he'll retreat if damaged(Cannot recall if they did that in previous CIV titles) I also think it's cool how they try to diplomatically propose a open border deal only to sneak attack you when they're inside your borders, I fell for that shit a couple of times, but I see right through it.

I think that, aesthetics aside, it's quite different to Civ V. Comparisons are really like claiming that Age of Empires is the same as Rise of Nations. Sure they look very similar, but play in quite different ways.

I was right the first time, AI is really bad.. there are tons of bugs in the game also. The AI is more advanced than I am, it's in the reinaissance era - industrial and it's walking at my muskets and bombardiers with spearmen...? what the fuck is going on there? they got plenty of gold too, they just don't want to upgrade their units.

The turns take forever after around turn 50 also, just 3 minutes loading times.

Bugs don't bother me so much, like being able to capture the AI's settlers at start of the game because it's too stupid to escort them.... Or districts shooting at you when they're not even constructed, or diplomacy penalty's for random reasons.. that shit can be fixed, but I think the AI isn't going to get much smarter than this.

So Gandhi just asked for a deal with a joint war against France, and then denounced me for being a warmonger.
                This was the first war.
For anyone who wasn't already aware.
                The AI sucks.

                  Sounds like it's deviously brilliant.

Sounds like you were dealing with Kim Jong Un rather than Gandhi

                      i mean wtf.
was never an aggressor but apparently i managed to trigger each of them.

I like the games but I can't seem to get into the micromanagement like some people and that makes them a bit samey for me. 4 was probably the best but 2 was my first and was what I had the most fun with.

Probably won't get any more unless something changes for the better.
